A contact ATR spectrum is collected from human skin.

Typical mid-IR spectra of soft tissue include characteristic amide I and amide II bands between 1700 and 1600 cm-1; these features originate from proteins.

Remspec's fiber-optic technology is ideal for non-invasive analysis of soft tissue.

Contact ATR spectra are obtained by pressing an ATR crystal firmly against the target tissue, giving the mid-IR spectrum of the surface layer to a depth of a few microns. Changes due to tissue degradation, or following treatment with lotions etc., can be characterized rapidly.

A flat-tipped ATR crystal is used for contact ATR of soft tissue to allow for good optical contact with minimal tissue damage.
